About me

My name is Catherine. I’m a writer and aspiring philosopher.

I think life is more interesting when you don’t take a straight line from A to B. It’s played out that way for me in my career – after doing a Philosophy degree and dabbling in music I’ve spent the last 20 years of my professional life exploring the different worlds of publishing, charity communications, website design and marketing.

But I also think – in my case at least – that the things you love when you’re young are often the very things that will make you happy throughout life.

A new direction

Recently I’ve had the chance to return to one of those first loves, the academic study of philosophy. I am currently studying for an MA in Philosophy and Artificial Intelligence at Northeastern University London, and I’m absolutely relishing the privilege. The world I seem to be made for moves slowly and offers space for deep thought, authentic ideas and original expression – and that’s just how I’m finally able to work, for now at least.

I would very much like to carry on spending my days reading and writing about philosophy after my Masters. Maybe (I can dream!) I might even get paid for doing it, one day. In the meantime, I have created this blog to get me where I want to go. Perhaps, at this advanced stage in my life, it’s really time to go in a straight line from A to B.
